It's officially here, pruning and planting season is upon us! So where to begin? I like to start with a Spring Clean-up in my yard and landscape beds. I begin by cutting back the perennials I left for winter interest last fall. Shrub pruning is next on the list. I prune both evergreen and deciduous shrubs unless the deciduous shrubs are spring bloomers. Lilacs, viburnums, & white spireas are a few I leave until their blooms begin to fade. I like to clean-up all the leaf/plant debris to help keep insects & disease at bay. Spring is also the perfect time to refresh mulch if needed and fertilize both your yard and landscape beds.
